Drill as Dance

…the reason I love the Drill event so much is because Drill feels like a dance. When dancing, we don’t just see where our partners are, we feel where they are. We lead, follow, and sync with their steps. In Drill, the rhythm of riding patterns creates an emotional charge…there is a heartbeat to the whole performance.

In this shoot, we worked both within Smith Rock and a gorgeous field at the client’s home where we were able to capture a variety of images from headshots, to senior portrait style twirls, to fun horse and rider poses for a varied collection of timeless work that can fit beautifully in a custom album or as a series of images on the wall.

Taking a photo shoot to the trail, and in the water, was totally new for me, and this experience taught me so much about framing images, working with varying levels of ground, adjusting my style to a verdant green backdrop (I’m a dusty desert gal), and playing with water!

OHSET 2023

In Spring of 2023, my camera has turned back to the horses after a photography hiatus for most of 2022. It is a blessing to capture the Oregon High School Equestrian Team Central District meets held at Brasada Ranch/Rim Rock Riders Club this year.
