The OHG Origin Story

Welcome to On High Ground (OHG)!

In 2016, On High Ground (OHG)was started as an experimental Instagram account where one could find visual snippets of life, the landscape, and gardening at 8700’ in the Colorado Rockies – though the local horses made up the majority of the feed. ;)

Today, OHG is a print and portrait studio capturing the spirit of cowgirls through fine art print, books, and photography.

Mission

The values upholding the work at OHG are courage, self-respect, personal growth, leadership, and the commitment to delivering experiences that foster strong self-esteem.

The intention for all work at OHG is to create spaces, experiences, and products that reflect the beauty, grit, and resilience of the powerful cowgirl spirit.

Giving Back

According to the CDC, 57% of U.S. teen girls felt persistently sad or hopeless in 2021, up from the 36% a decade before. That’s over half of the population of young women surveyed, and this number doesn’t even account for those that weren’t.

At OHG, it is a priority to both build and share a foundation of tools and resources that support strong and stable mental health. Therefore, OHG/Jacquelyn Tierney pledges to contribute 2% of all profit from horse and rider photographic session fees and sales to organizations that support mental health through the use of equine therapy.

Hi there, I’m Jacquelyn Tierney.

I’m the photographer and creative behind On High Ground. My background is in fashion, printmaking, book design, graphic design, and decorative arts history.

My first introduction to photography was in my middle school arts program where we learned how to build a pin hole camera and develop filmstrips of our work capturing the school grounds. A couple of decades later, I fell in love with the art of portrait photography.

In 2017, I took my first clients, focusing on personal portraiture, headshots, and small business branding. In 2019, I began dabbling in horse and rider work. Tbh, photographing cowgirls is my most favorite work of all!

Education

I hold a Master's degree in the History of Decorative Arts and Design from the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, National Design Museum of the Smithsonian Institution in conjunction with Parsons The New School; Majoring in German 18th Century Palatial Interior Architecture with a Minor concentration in Roman Landscapes, 1485-1650. Undergraduate studies were completed at the University of Queensland and Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University with a Printmaking Concentration.

Fun Facts:

I have traveled to 30 countries and 48 states. Over the years, I have studied multiple languages including: Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese, and French. No, I’m not fluent, but I can order a meal when I have to. ;) I’m a fur mom to one cat and one dog. I’m hoping to include a few horses on that list – one day. My favorite places to hike stateside are: Hidden Valley Trail in Moab, Utah, and anything at Smith Rock in Terrebone, Oregon. I work part time at a sustainable flower farm, and I would still work there if I had all the money in the world to do whatever I wanted. Curious about my favorite flower? It’s the Crown Imperial (Fritillaria imperialis). May every lady feel like a queen.

Did you know, OHG also stands for “Oregon Horse Girl”?

In 2021, I moved to Oregon and started photographing horse girls in the high desert. I don’t think it was a coincidence that I already had a mini brand developed with the same initials. It was fate, and OHG is the business of my dreams now coming true. Thank you for helping to make this happen.
